1 John 5: 6-8

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

In 1 John 5:6-8, the Apostle John provides three earthly witnesses to confirm the reality of Jesus Christ as both fully divine and fully human. He highlights that Jesus came by both "water" (His baptism) and "blood" (His sacrificial death), and that the Holy Spirit testifies to this truth

Breaking Down the Witnesses

  • The Water: Most commentators agree this symbolizes Jesus’ baptism, marking the beginning of His public ministry.
  • The Blood: This represents His sacrificial death and crucifixion, confirming His true humanity and the atonement for sins.
  • The Spirit: The Holy Spirit who dwells within believers and testifies to the truth of the Gospel.
